Our Great Reads of 2023

It’s been a fun-filled year of great reads. Throughout the year, we’ve discovered hidden gems and love for current bestsellers. Though we may have shared our excitement and appreciation for them earlier this year, we wanted to showcase them one last time (in 2023 anyway) because they are the cream of our 2023 reading crop. And we wouldn’t want you to miss out on such great reads!

So, without further ado, and in no particular order, here are our Great Reads of 2023.

A WWII historical fiction based on extensive research into the real life forgers that helped save thousands of lives.

A historical novel at its best, The Book of Lost Names not only enthralls its reader with a captivating story (there is love, loss, danger, etc.), but also educates the reader with a part of WWII history about which is not as widely known, document forging.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This book wasn’t at all what I expected. I don’t honestly know what I expected… but it wasn’t this story. So to say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. I loved Evelyn Hugo. She is an unapologetic force to be reckoned with.

Supposedly Hollywood is making a movie based on the book, but I haven’t seen anything concretely confirming it’s going to happen. But I kind of hope it does.

If you have yet to pick this one up because the cover doesn’t appeal to you (me) or because it is too popular and you don’t want to be a part of the crowd (also me)… get over it because this book is fantastic! It’s fun, it’s real, it’s timeless.

Yes, it has a bit of an agenda, but you don’t have to feed into it if you don’t want to. Just enjoy a great story and a completely original heroine. Zott’s got some great quips, too.

I almost always enjoy Jojo Moyes’ books. She’s easy to read and I like her protagonists.

I can’t, however, say that I particularly cared for Nisha throughout the majority of this one… though I don’t think you’re really supposed to like her, either.

But I couldn’t put the book down. I had to find out what happened with the two women.

There’s nothing jaw-dropping about Someone Else’s Shoes, but it is a great story, with some unexpected twists and turns. Sheer enjoyment.
